We are looking to hire a Maintenance Technician who will be instrumental in the success of Tessenderlo Kerley’s new plant startup in Defiance, Ohio. 

As the Maintenance Technician, you will perform new facility start-up maintenance activities, including motor burn-in/alignment, rotation verification, equipment lube, and creation of required equipment files.  Also, you will assist with maintenance shop set-up, organization, and critical spare parts identification and procurement.

What you will do:

  • Assist with new facility equipment and piping hydro-testing.
  • Identify, schedule, and perform preventative maintenance routines in accordance with the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment and schedule contractor assistance when necessary.
  • Maintain work order system to ensure work is properly prioritized and repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Utilize plant equipment to clear snow and remove ice during inclement weather.
  • Set the tone for safety and work ethics for the maintenance department and all coworkers.
  • Coach and train members of the maintenance team.
  • Rebuild pumps per manufacturer’s IOM manuals.
  • Assist with planning and execution of turnaround maintenance activities.
  • Monitor activities of contract personnel to ensure safe work practices are implemented.
  • Participate in the plant PSM program, including assisting with annual, semiannual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily MI inspections and filling out related documentation.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and repair of plant equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining necessary inventory or maintenance and I&E supplies.
  • Containment, clean up, packaging, and labeling of Hazardous Waste according to HAZWOPER training and OSHA, NDEQ, RCRA, HM-126, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
  • Report irregularities to Management for corrective actions.
  • Participate in the plant safety program, including presenting/attending required safety meetings, reporting potential hazards, and performing monthly safety inspections.
  • Routine inspection of vessels and equipment to prevent equipment failure/damage.
  • Assist in plant projects, including maintenance, turn-around, Lock Out/ Tag Out, and Confined Space Entries.
  • Implement an Emergency Response Plan and assist in the mitigation of emergency situations.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by management.


What we need from you:

  • Good mechanical/technical knowledge/skills
  • Must be able to read and understand the material
  • Basic mathematical/analytical skills
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry
  • Good written/verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate – must know basic computer skills
  • Ability to logically discuss equipment issues with vendor technical support personnel to facilitate timely repairs.
  • Must be organized and thorough and must be able to organize and maintain parts storage areas.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when maintenance requirements dictate and must be available for short notice call-out.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods of time, climb multiple flights of stairs, and have the ability to perform various tasks using reaching, pulling, and pushing techniques.  
  • Must be medically cleared to utilize self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), in-line air with full face respirator, and other respiratory equipment.
