Tessenderlo Kerley entered the crop protection business in 1999 with the acquisition of the Sectagon 42 brand of metam sodium, a fast-acting, contact biocide soil fumigant. As a pre-plant application, Sectagon 42 suppresses nematode population, fungi, tough annual weeds and soil-borne pathogens. This results in improved crop growth with greater yields and a more consistent crop. In 2006, Sectagon K54® brand of metam potassium, biocide fumigant was added to this product range. Sectagon K54 differs from Sectagon 42 in that it does not contain sodium but potassium, and was developed for crops that are sodium sensitive.
