Thio-Gold® is an attractive lixiviant for the extraction of gold and silver. Thiosulfate is considered a non-toxic alternative to cyanide and the gold dissolution rates can be faster than conventional cyanidation. In addition, high gold recoveries may be obtained from the thiosulfate leaching of complex and carbonaceous-type ores.
Thio-Gold® is a non-hazardous liquid with a typical pH of 6.5 to 8.5. The liquid solution is typically clear to pale yellow in color and may have a slight ammonia and/or organic odor. Solutions of Thio-Gold are considered stable in normal transportation. Solutions range from 55 to 60% strength by weight and weigh 11.0 to 11.2 pounds per U.S. gallon (1.32 - 1.35 gm/cc).
